Don't Leave the Airport When Your Flight Gets Delayed

Trust me—airlines hate when you know this trick.

I just found out the hard way that sitting tight in the airport can actually save you a ton of money.

Here's what happened: my flight got delayed—three hours. Normally,

I'd just grab a coffee and scroll TikTok while waiting. But this time, I decided to push back.

I asked the airline: "So… what about some kind of compensation?"
The standard reply? "Sorry, delays happen. Just wait at the gate."

Nope. That's not OK. I'd heard about a little-known DOT regulation, and I decided to flex it.

Turns out, for domestic flights delayed over 3 hours (or 6 hours for international), you're legally entitled to a full cash refund.

Yes—cash, not vouchers, not points.

So I said exactly this:
"Since you delayed my flight by over three hours, this is now considered a significant change, and I am entitled to an automatic cash refund."

The airline didn't argue—they processed it. Boom. Free money, just for knowing your rights.

Next time your flight is delayed, do not leave the airport.

Pull out your phone, quote the DOT rules, and get what's rightfully yours. Airlines hate it, but your wallet will love it.
