I made one of those Target purchases that felt completely normal.
Paid for it. Took it home. Forgot about it.
Then I checked the price again.
And it was cheaper.
My first thought was basically:
“Cool. I guess I just overpaid.”
But then I remembered something most Target shoppers don't think to check.
Target has a Price Match Guarantee that can also apply after you've already made your purchase.
If you bought an eligible item and the identical item is now cheaper at Target.com, in a Target store, or through an eligible Target Circle deal, you may be able to get the lower price matched within 14 days of your purchase.
So instead of just accepting that I paid more, I checked.
And yep—I was still within the 14-day window.
That's when I realized the mistake I had been making.
I was treating the price on my receipt like it was final.
It isn't always.
There are some important catches, though. The item has to qualify, and Target has exclusions for things like clearance, closeout and liquidation items, certain promotions, gift card offers, and other special pricing. You'll also need your original receipt for a price adjustment, and Target needs to be able to verify the current lower price.
For an in-store purchase, you can bring the receipt and proof of the current lower Target price to Guest Services. For Target.com or app purchases, Target says you can contact Guest Services online or by phone.
So now I have a new habit:
Every time I buy something at Target, I check the price again before 14 days are up.
Because the worst feeling isn't finding out something got cheaper.
It's finding out it got cheaper while you were still eligible to get the difference back—and doing absolutely nothing about it.
Budget Wiener definitely would not let that happen.
